When the Texas Rangers set out to create a permanent fan-focused installation inside Globe Life Field, the goal was simple: celebrate community, local pride, and the deep connection between baseball and the surrounding region.

To bring that vision to life, the Rangers partnered with STAR to design and build a large-scale branded hat wall, a custom interior experience featuring nearly 200 team hats displayed as a visual centerpiece within the stadium. The installation transformed an empty interior space into a storytelling moment that resonates with fans long after game day.

The Challenge

Unlike many interior graphics projects, the Rangers’ concept required more than simply dressing an existing surface. The space provided to STAR had no existing wall structure, meaning the team needed to engineer and construct a new architectural feature capable of supporting a large, highly visible display.

In addition to the physical build, the project required extensive coordination and sourcing. The Rangers envisioned a wall filled with hats representing local high school teams, a concept that required outreach, collaboration, and careful curation to bring together the final collection.

The installation also had to meet tight timing constraints, as construction took place during a narrow window between major stadium events.

The STAR Solution

STAR approached the project as a full branded environment rather than a traditional graphic installation.

Working closely with the Rangers’ team and Lexus, STAR designed and fabricated a custom-built wall capable of supporting a large-scale hat display while maintaining a clean, polished look consistent with the stadium environment. The visual concept, creating a layout that balanced scale with clarity so each hat could be easily viewed as part of a larger collective story.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Fabrication of a new structural wall to anchor the installation
  • Integration of top and bottom lighting to highlight the display
  • Sourcing and coordinating nearly 200 hats from local organizations
  • Incorporation of a digital kiosk to help fans locate their team within the wall

While an early concept explored interactive lighting that would illuminate individual hats, the team refined the design to stay within budget while preserving the installation’s visual impact.

Impact

The completed hat wall features 189 hats representing teams and communities throughout the region, turning a simple interior space into a destination for fans.

Installed during a tight turnaround between major stadium events, the wall quickly became a focal point inside Globe Life Field and was even captured on television during All-Star Game coverage, extending the installation’s reach beyond the stadium itself.

Beyond aesthetics, the project strengthened fan engagement. High schools that weren’t originally included began reaching out after the wall debuted, demonstrating the installation’s ability to spark connection and pride across the community.

Conclusion

The lEXUS Hat Wall hat wall shows how a thoughtfully designed branded environment can turn a blank interior space into a lasting fan experience.

By partnering with STAR, the Rangers created more than a display, they built a permanent storytelling installation that celebrates local teams, connects fans to their community, and adds a new layer of identity to the Globe Life Field environment.
